"How priceless is your unfailing love! Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of your wings. They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights. For with you is the Fountain of Life; in your light, we see light." Psalm 36:7-9
Often and too many times throughout my life, I forget that I'm not in control. I can certainly preach that sentiment to friends and family members, but rarely have I consistently taken heed of my own advice.
I have been on a long journey to figure out how to really be healthy, not just physically, but spiritually, mentally, and emotionally as well. With reference to the physical, a number of physicians, naturopaths, and other integrative health practitioners have advised me along the way. Several important health markers have repeatedly revealed themselves. High cholesterol, a bit of weight gain, high cortisol levels, inflammation markers, and last but certainly not least, post menopausal symptoms. All of that being said, I am relatively healthy. I have no terrible ailments, except of course, I am about to turn 56 years old. We'll get back to that later!
The beginning of changes in my life.....
Several months ago, I decided to permanently delete my Facebook. I had become disenchanted with the overall negativity that seemed to prevail (along with my own participation). Let's be honest, we all sit behind our glowing screens and post and project our feelings. Interestingly, we all anxiously wait to receive those proverbial "likes" or comments! Gone are the days of phoning someone and having an actual one on one conversation. I also began to assess the reality that I didn't actually know 456 people (my beloved Facebook Friends)! Being a control freak, I wasn't satisfied with just simply deactivating my account, because after all, my own temptation to simply log back on, just sat like the devil on one shoulder, and an angel on the other. After a bit of research, I discovered that I could actually delete my account, although I didn't feel comfortable leaving all of my content, photos, and posts in an unknown cloud of obscurity. Before I began the deletion process, I took the long road and began deleting eleven years of activity. That's right, (you just read that) I began deleting each post, each photo, and each video! God works in wonderful ways because, as I deleted each post, (the deletion process being an actual double-click) I re-read each and every one that I had written over the course of eleven years. What really stood out, was the fact that I had actually been journaling on a regular basis! This had always been something that I had admired about those who thoughtfully journaled. However, my journal was public and populating in Google. (If you don't believe me, just google your own name!) Several days later, my account was permanently deleted, app removed from my smart phone, and the sense of empowerment began to sweep over me.
I've been praying a lot, and let me humbly share that God is listening! Today, I am beginning a 365 day journey and I thought that I would share what I am doing each day to create better habits for myself, lose a few unwanted pounds, reduce negative health markers and encourage others to be proactive with their health. First, I want to give God all of the glory, so I'll start with a bible verse of inspiration with each post. I'll share some cardiometabolic recipes that I am enjoying, an Instagram photo, and lots of encouraging words for any of you who would like to join me on your own journey! Yes, my daily journal will still be public, but will only be found here at The Virtuous Road. Another inspirational journal that I would highly recommend is an amazing book called, 52 Lists for Happiness. This is a "Weekly Journaling for Inspiration, Positivity, Balance and Joy" written by Moorea Seal. I hope you'll join me on The Virtuous Road!
